Shane Howard Trio

For 35 years Shane Howard’s songs have mapped an Australian landscape. From the dry desert landscape where he penned ‘Solid Rock’ to the Wild Rivers of Tasmania and ‘Let the Franklin Flow’ he’s created a uniquely Australian voice and traversed a vast landscape in his travels.

With his 13th album ‘Deeper South’, the musical landscape is as vast, mysterious and powerful as the Southern Ocean that roars outside Howard’s true musical home, in a shack down by the South West Victorian coast.

‘Deeper South’ is an album that redefines the boundaries of Australian folk music and reinvigorates it with poetic and musical mastery. The musical influences are as diverse as jazz, blues, country, Australian folk music and the deep well of traditional Celtic music.

On this album, Shane’s great musicality is enriched by the accomplished playing of John Hudson (Guitar/Dobro) and Ewen Baker (Fiddle/Mandolin). The live show rocks and rolls, like a boat ploughing deep into Antarctic waters, set free from the troubles that beset the land, sailing wildly into the tempest of mighty squalls. Gentler songs are deeply meditative, picture the calm, glassy, seas of Summer. Irish and Scottish tunes flow in and out, like ocean currents.

This is true folk music, but not as we know it!
